How to Compare Prices Across Stores (The Right Way)
The lowest sticker price is not always the lowest price you pay. Comparing properly takes a few minutes and often saves real money.

Compare the same thing
Start by being certain that you are comparing the same product. Match the exact model number, storage or size, colour and what is included in the box. A listing that looks cheaper may be an older version, a bundle with fewer items or a refurbished unit. The model number printed on the brand's own website is the best reference.
Build a small comparison table
For anything that matters, write down the following for each store you check, either on paper or in your notes app:
- Listed price and MRP.
- Delivery charge and expected delivery date.
- Offers you can actually use, such as instant bank discounts or a store coupon.
- Seller name and warranty details.
- Return or replacement window.
- Final payable amount at the payment step.
Which stores to check
- The big marketplaces. See our pages for Amazon and Flipkart.
- The brand's own store. Brands such as boAt and Adidas sell directly and run their own offers.
- Specialist retailers. Croma and Reliance Digital for electronics, Nykaa for beauty and FirstCry for baby products.
- Fashion marketplaces. Ajio and Tata CLiQ for clothing and footwear.
The hidden costs
- Delivery and handling fees. A few stores waive them above a cart value, others always charge.
- Payment fees. Cash on delivery may carry an extra fee.
- Return shipping. Some categories charge for pickups if you return an item.
- Accessories sold separately. Chargers, cases and adapters can change the real cost.
- Installation. For large appliances, find out who installs it and whether there is a fee.
Offers can flip the winner
Two stores may list the same sale price, but one has a better card offer or a coupon. Always compare after applying the best available offer. Our bank card offers guide and promo codes guide show how to read the terms.
Do not forget service and trust
A slightly higher price from an official seller can be the better deal when it brings a reliable warranty and an easy return. This is true for expensive electronics and for brands that are often copied. Cheap is only a good thing if the product is genuine and the seller will stand behind it.
Know the return rules before you compare
Return policies differ by store and by product type. Fashion items often have a clear size-exchange option, while some electronics allow only replacement for a faulty unit. A store with a simple, no-questions return process can be worth a small price difference, especially for items where fit or feel matters, such as shoes, clothing and headphones. Note the return window and who pays for pickup before you place the order.
A quick routine
Open three tabs for the same product. Apply the best offer in each, read the delivery date and note the final amount. Pick the one with the lowest final price among trusted sellers. Frequently asked questions
Is the brand's own website cheaper than marketplaces?
Sometimes, but not always. Brands run separate sales on their sites and on marketplaces, so check both.
How many stores should I compare?
Two or three trusted ones are enough. Beyond that the extra savings are usually small.
Should I pay more for an official seller?
For expensive or commonly copied products, often yes. The warranty and the genuineness assurance are worth a small premium.
